The result was some pretty amazing DIY shadow puppetry. Audience members made their creations (next to the broom cupboard) and at the end of the evening we performed with the puppets and improvised some very silly stories. My favorite was the Siamese cat which lived in Chris Collier ear….

We hope to run more cabaret nights in the new year. Watch this space!

Well well well, in May we spent a lovely weekend making shadow puppet delights. We held a make and play session at the Montpelier Arts Trail. The theme was ‘Animal Western’, staring Barberaroo the lovely Hoooooorse, Mexican Mole bandit and Croc the Sherif. Families, kids and general creative beings (with a tendency towards silliness) were welcome to create a a shadow puppet and be part of the play. We set up a workshop space and an OHP, and here are some of the stories we made….

Live storytelling with shadows. Corina and Rebecca told stories, Rosie played music, and the audience created images with their shadows. You can see the kids drawing the curtains, sweeping the leaves and having fun!

So far, we have been telling you our sea inspired stories, and now we’d like to hear yours.

In November Gongoozler will be hosting an interactive performance. We are collecting sea inspired stories from Stokes Croft, and we will be projecting your stories at the Hamilton House Open Doors (with help form you and our audience). Get involved -join us for the performance, or send us a story.

We began the evening by the harbourside, where a lively audience awaited to be led to our top secret location. Although, the location became apparently un-top-secret as we drew closer. The shop windows were lit, and other audience members were making shadows move for passers-by.

Before the show started we passed around handmade shakers (they are not milk bottles), and invited the audience to shake, whistle and sing when they felt they should (there was much whistling and shaking in the hanky/jellyfish love scene!). And so our story begins. Lovers embrace, a handkerchief has an adventure, and turtle bones make good homes -if you’ve got nothing better to use. Pete sure does tell a good story, or two, or three.

We will perform again in November at Hamilton House for the Open Doors day. We will be trying something new, and inviting the audience to make stories.
